Marina Etiquette

For those us that had the misfortune to be on O pontoon on Saturday night, I can confirm Scoops that you were not alone having to deal with this group of "sailors". I got involved at 3.30 am with the pyhsical threats being about the only thing they were able to understand. The sad fact though, is that they were a couple of Bav 42 sailing school boats, whose skippers were in bad shape let alone the crew, who would now seem th think that this is what sailing is all about. To be fair to Lymington Yacht Haven, they were very understanding the next morning, offered a full refund and planned to ban the sail school concerned from visiting again. They did point out that we should have called the night-watch man who would have dealt with it all, but just slipped me by, I guess because in all my time on the water I have never experienced anything like this before, in my experience most are thoughtful of others. If only the boats had the name of the school I would today being naming and shaming - the skippers need their tickets taking away from them IMHO.

Isn't that a little unusual... I thought most sailing schools had the name clearly displayed normally for publicity, or maybe in this case thats why the name wasn't displayed!

Not particularly unusual. Many of the smaller sailing schools do not actually own the boats themselves but charter them from another outfit.

I've just read all of these posts and I can now reveal to all who and what it was.

The two boats are owned by Solent Yacht Charters. The event was a stag weekend. They were in Landers on the friday evening, groom dressed in an 'Officer and Gentleman' outfit.

I heard them say, Cowes friday night, Lymington Saturday night. We sailed into Lym saw them, then went to Yarmouth instead.

The Skippers, One was a girl, the other a 'lad'. I saw them again in Osbourne Bay on the Sunday, jumping of the transom and being very, very antisocial!!!

Not my idea of a fun sailing W/E but each to there own.

Be respectful of those around you, and night watchmen at marina's should do something about it.

I had my bow line untied at Cowes Yacht Havern two years ago after a 'racing team' thought it would be funny. It caused damage to my boat, and the poor Bav inboard me. This was at one in the morning. And the usual fog horns going off.

Do we want, need, or even require these louts in yachting????

I think not.

The posters who say that we should put up with such loutish behaviour are wrong. We pay to be in the marina- either overnight or as berth-holders. Would you put up with such behaviour in a hotel- of course you wouldn't!

Having a look at their site the Charters boast....

Package to include:
Drinks on arrival
Mooring fees and fuel
Skipper
Breakfast on both days
Lunch onboard including drinks
Tea & Coffee
Accomodation onboard

I expect as an extra there are drinks.

?

I can absolutely agree that the loud behaviour is antisocial and shouldn't have to be tolerated beyond, say, midnight on a Saturday for whatever reason - but fail to see the link to ''skippers tickets".

If I was to draw an analogy to P pontoon in Cherbourg that same night similar consumption was definitely taking place but the behaviour was considerate (as far as I remember it!).

Yes, because all the EBB's were on Q.....

Seriously though, quite agree Duncan... we all had a skinfull, but as far as I am aware didn't upset anybody, or cause a disturbance....

Don't mind a bit of high spirits.... kind of enjoy it myself on occasions.... but at some point, you do need to consider others....

come to think of it we did party on Q too - but managed to get back to sleep on P. Best way round really........... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

many thanks to Observer and BoBE for thier hospitality /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Aha! That explains all. No one wanted to admit to being skipper. No RYA skipper would have allowed this behaviour. A bunch of horray henrys' on a stag week-end who obviously think that was acceptable behaviour. I had assumed it was a sailing school. How did these idiots get to charter 2 boats anyway?????

I suspect he was keeping his head down and hoping nobody would come and complain. Well, would you want to risk a physical confrontation with a bunch of drunken Hoorays if you were paid as little as possible for a crap job, working unsocial hours? I wouldn't.

I like this point!

It has made me look at the skipper's in a different light.

Poor B.ugger
