Just wondered what different marinas charge for their electricity ??

My electric at home cost 12.1 p per unit
My marina charges 15p per unit

Are the marinas allowed to charge whatever they like...
there is never any mention on the bills about a charge for
the electric posts on the pontoon, just units used and total price.

aaarh! beware!
altho they are only allowed by OFGEN to recharge at cost, there are other ways to increase revenue.
Monthly service charge etc
Our marina now charges a service charge at the same rate as the leccy.

So unit rate is 12p/unit... not so bad i hear you say, but then they add on 12p/unit service charge! so 24p/unit.

The real kicker tho is that the elec is only liable to 5% Vat, BUT the service charge is levyied at 17.5% VAT

so the real charge is 26.7p/unit...... ouch!

Would recommend that you check in detail re leccy charges

There is an irregularity. I don't use Marina anymore. Some people may have realized that natural gas and other energy fuel costs have been trending down. They likewise may have realized that electricity charges, though, are up. It is because electricity prices are complicated and are set by numerous factors.
