Marina Elect charges- advice pls?

All that i have running is a small 500w greenhouse heater on low - sort of frost guard. A smart charger for the isolated off batts. A dehumidifier which only works when its quite warm anyway, and fridge on low. In the summer the heater is stored and everything else is the same - the bill is 10% of the winter months during the summer.

I'm not 100% convinced at your comment vis a vis the meter either works or it does not. I have had quite a few PM's on the matter and many people have told be that marinas have concured that their readings were double etc.

I can only report as I find, ours are five years old, and out of the 70 installations, 2 have failed. They still pump out power, but nothing registers.
I don't know what make of installations you guys use, but ours so far have been very consistant.
Interested in finding out the issue of double unit reading, from faulty meters.
You folks are paying fairly premium lease fees in the first place, I can understand the issues with the power cost.

I pay 17p per KWh, so I phoned the local supply company and was told for the supply of electric to the marina they could do it for 12p and a minimal standing charge? where does the rest of the charge come from? don`t they negotiate hard enough???

Can't comment on your local operators, maybe an abundant supply of leasee's in the heavily populated boating areas, creates the air of, if he does pay-the next guy will, sort of thinking. But I don't think so.

On the other hand.

Remember also a fully facilitated marina with hundreds of berths offering VHF coverage all day, the guy in a workboat to randomly come out to tow you home (from what I read on the forum), lease payments on waterfront land, lease payments to the crown for the land space below the water, dredging, ever increasing insurance, maintainance etc...

To fully process our power accounts monthly, takes me most of one full day, I know its all part of the service, but its still a business cost.

Power charges are always 'raw nerve' issues regardless of which side of the fence you are on. Ours are kept as close to cost neutral as possible, understanding our initially high buy price.
