Marina Charges

More MDL fun: if you want to go on a waiting list for a berth in 2023 you must pay a deposit of £500 before the end of 2022.
Certainly makes sure you are interested in a berth. Imagine you want to move marina and you approach 3 marinas and all of them demanded £500. You would only consider just one and keep your fingers crossed. However if two took no deposit, then you would ignore the one that charged. Time will tell if MDL are successful and/or other marinas follow suit.

A friend who keeps his boat in Chatham tells me the Marina is now measuring boats to include anchors overhanging the stem and dinghies attached vertically to the transom. Also, staff have been seen using a plum line fore and aft to get an accurate measurement of boats whilst ashore. Is this normal, or just limited to Chatham?
Incidentally, are there any marinas that charge by the pontoon rather than boat length? Whilst there would be winner's and loosers (my 7.5 metre boat is about a meter longer than the pontoon) surely, that would be a fairer way of charging?
They always have, My davits came off with record speed and the anchor was put on the fore deck instead off hanging off the bow roller when I was in there.

Theft is the wrong word, Fraud by Misrepresentation is correct. (Fraud Act 2006 Section 2.)
Apologies I stand corrected. But at the end of the day it is dishonesty. I would suggest that openly admitting to such actions just encourages others. So where does one stop? Then trying to justify it up by making absurd claims just makes it worse.
Do we really need it? If one can afford to sail a boat into a marina then one should be able to budget for the appropriate cost. As difficult as it may be. If it was an honest mistake on either party then that is a different matter. But the matter in quetion clearly was not. Further more, would it not have been better for the forumite to have put his hand up & said "OK I was wrong". But no, he decided to reply with a "seemingly" ridiculous claim about 2 inch thich bird droppings to justify his fraud.
But although I picked on this forumite in particular - which is possibly unfair of me- I do get fed up with the notion that it is OK to be dishonest
How often does one read about forumites getting stuff stollen, then going & buying dirt cheap replacements on fleabay. It is a £ to a penny that they are just fuelling the theft cycle.
Can one explain to me how marina fraud is any different.
So Ok, I will say sorry to Xyacht Dave if he feels offended that I called him out for being a "thief", But perhaps he might feel differently when he next goes into Ramsgate & pays the bill

I know people who have done a lot worse than fibbed about the length of their boat.

One guy went to pick his boat up after being lifted out for repairs and left without paying as the invoice had not been prepared at the time he went to collect his boat. He never did get the invoice and never did follow it up.

You’re right, it might only have been an inch of bird poo.

Ramsgate did try to chase me for berthing monies once - they had noticed that I had paid on two occasions about a week apart and decided that I owed for the time in between too (when we were Nieuwport... bit of a cheek I thought) easily resolved by a polite 'phone call.

Portavadie marina charge per berth and not length of boat for annual customers, although they have different sized berths with different prices too.

There should also be a reduced rate for berths that are a bugger to get in and out of. :)
There should be a greatly increased fee for those that make a mess of it & end up frightening other owners with their antics; even though there is ample room. Especially those that start complaining that it is "The boats fault", because it does not respond to the dick on the stick. (or wheel)

That is to some extent already the case at Titchmarsh where I believe that the berths between the pontoon and the bank are considerably cheaper. I have certainly found myself directed to some pretty dodgy berths over the years, some with rusty iron posts to avoid, but hadn’t thought to ask for a discount. I think that I shall write to St Peter Port and ask for a retrospective amount to compensate for mental stress.

In fact I am berthed in a tricky berth that was intended for a 40 footer, but I am only 32ft. It was the only berth free when I was relaunched some years ago as my previous berth was blocked by a large fishing boat. The berth is nice and wide, close to the toilet block and much closer to the pontoon entrance. So win, win for me.

I can recall being told that the Moody 28 is actually a few inches shorter than the 27, but as it was a later model Moodys gave it a higher number!
I don’t know the actual length of either.
