Have just received my marina bill (for berth 31'2" x 10'8") Locmiquélic (Lorient)

FWIW :

€1612 payable in 10 monthly instalments or €1570 if paid in January. (For a 16m boat it would be €2915)
Free water, electricity and showers.
2 free nights at each of some 30 partner marinas in S. Brittany.
10% reduction on all port services.
40% reduction on a 24 lift-out for anti-fouling. (Last year it was free...)

We seem to have finally got to the point where UK marina charges outside the solent are not a lot different from continental ones. We pay £1400 in Cardiff on a 36 footer.

Talking to a friend yesterday who has his boat in Turkey, he's paying 2500euroi for a 36 footer and reckons that is cheap - at his Turkish home port it would be more like 4000. And the marinas are full.

Hi John. Sounds good. What's availability like in Locmiquélic? Is there a waiting list for an annual contract? Where's the nearest airport and how is public transport between it and Locmiquélic? Thanks. Martin.

Just done a "quote" on premier for a 37'er .... goes from around £3k to £7k ... most are top end of £4k ... bugger that ... !!

High prices are due to high demand. Maybe it's time that the RYA and others stopped thinking it was a good idea to encourage more people to take up yachting!

I bloody wish, were moving our 34' from the Hamble to a swinging mooring in Chi harbour in March, Deacons wanted 3800 for a pontoon with no power, most other places have quoted between 4000 to 5500 in the Solent area and some of those quotes are for the season rather than the year.:(

Hey - don't be sad that you're moving into a beautiful harbour ... the peace and tranquility in an evening can be superb - and you don't even have to leave your mooring!!

Having extreme difficulty in qualifying the cost of ownership, when I'm asking that we cut back elsewhere. Even if I get away with the the boat's capital depreciation - or lack of capital appreciation, then the marina charges will eventually kill it for me.

Constantly reading and hearing about thefts & break-ins puts me off swinging moorings. Even they seem only to be about 50% cheaper than Chi Marina, all things considered. Problems, problems :)

John's deal seems very good. But it's hard enough planning to get on the boat now, with the boat close by. Not sure if I could get enough use if it was elsewhere. I'd be interested to hear how any recent relocations to French marinas have worked out for UK sailors.

I think the practicality of a foreign marina depends upon your ability to be there for periods longer than a weekend. For your average full time employee, weekend trips to a remote marina are precluded due to the planning, cost and travelling time and effort. If you are retired or can organise your work and family life to allow longer stays it's more viable.

Calais 9.5m berth, €964 inc water and elec.
Works very well for me :)

Nice! All you need is for the Pound to rocket, given that the recession is over and those bankers in the city have been sorted out. They'll be paying you soon.. :)

I'm not sad about moving to Chi been on the waiting list for a mooring there for about fours years now, very happy about that:). It's the outrageous costs of marinas around here that kills me.

When we got our first boat a 25ft Itchen Ferry in my naivety I rang Ocean Village about a berth and they quoted me £575 a month, can’t print what I said to the bloke, didn’t mean to be rude I was just so shocked lol
