Hello Everyone.

This is my first post so time to introduce myself. My name is Arran. I work as a rotational Chief Engineer on a 185 ft private sailing yacht. I am thinking of buying a sailing yacht and living aboard when I am not working. I plan to blue water sail around the world so am doing my research at the moment.

I was wondering if there is a comprehensive website for finding Marina Berth pricing worldwide?.

Kind regards

Arran

Dont be surprised, the forum can be very cliquey these days. A big hello from me anyhow. I dont know of any directory that you are looking for, but I guess it may exist. You might do well to select a part of the world where you might like to base, or at least a short list. I have just returned from the South of France, sailing a friends 36ftr. Most of the time we anchored up, swimming off the back, lovely. we did though spend two nights in Cavalaire sur Mer which cost us €54 a night, you will get much moaning about UK Solent prices, but this puts things into perspective.

Sailing Today says it is $7 per foot per night in Nantucket in August! I nearly fell over when I read that. I think that most blue water yachtsmen spend most time at anchor. If you need repairs or a long term place to park your boat then there are various forums where you can get good advice. But iof you are really serious then look at the Noonsite.

We stayed in Tiros, Greece a few weeks ago. 2EUR for our Beneteau 323 for the night + 3EUR for water.

Interestingly, the Greek fishing boats had the berths with electricity and free water, even though none of them showed any signs of being able to be hitched up to electricity or having a water tank... :-)

Do they get an EU grant for maintaining their fishing boats? Only of a couple of the 50+ boats showed any signs of being used.

We met a German couple a couple of weeks ago who were heading back toward Spain. They had decided not to venture to far East as they did not relish the thought of who to take on board from a sinking migrant boat ( or to be boarded irrespective of capacity ) or to find floating bodies. Anyone else got any thought on this, although the migrant boats ( or reports of) seem fewer this year.

Groundless fears. although there were some reports in the early days that private boats got involved in the Aegean there is now strong guidance from the authorities not to get involved, but report what you see. The authorities are now well organised and the migrants (many fewer now) go where the rescue services are.

Slightly more to your needs,The Cruising Association (CA) has a few hundred of its several thousand members circling the globe at the moment. Most of them attended the CA's preparation seminars. These introduce various cruising areas (Med, Baltic, Tidal Europe) and their quirks to newcomers.

Next "round the world" seminars will be held over the weekend 20th/21st August in Limehouse Dock, London. Full details and booking.
. These sessions are brilliant value. People who've done it tell you all about the preparations they should have made before setting off. And give great feedback about timing, costs, keeping in touch, etc.

And the big deal is that you'll probably find someone who's done it your way in your size of boat.

If you can't make the seminar, the CA has a specialist forum for Blue water sailors; questions and up to date answers from all the same people. And probably the best research library in the world for world cruise planning - if you can get to Limehouse Dock

Seminars open to the public - about £50 or so (with a good buffet!). Forums, web site info on harbors, and Q & A stuff all subject to membership. Fitting out and preparing the boat is where most members find they've recovered their membership fees, sometimes many times over.

Similar to https://dockwa.com
Both seem to use the same "back-end" database. Problem with these is that they are either incomplete data (so it's easier to phone the marina) or you have to message marina and await reply. Marina de Denia is there but not Club Nautico or El Portet which are in the same basin. Message Marina de Denia and chances of a reply are near zero!
A good concept but .............
