While I was working in Guantanamo bay in 1988(before it became infamous!)one of the target towing tugs brought a ship in that had been floating out near the range for some days. When they boarded they found it empty and towed it back to port.I went to have a look at it and was allowed on board,it was a small coaster type with a hold and aft bridge with accomodation for about 4/5 people,The galley behind the bridge was clean and tidy with crockery etc and the engine room also well appointed with a clean Volvo engine etc.The hold contained some hardwood timbers and woodworking machines .
Some clues were that the machinery was 220v indicating a british origin ,the only other clue was initials welded on the stern ,A.Y.C.
We thought Antigua yacht club maybe as the wood etc indicated it may have been a repair shop for yachts. Why was it drifting around the caribean?Perhaps it was a insuranc job?Anyone out there who can shed light on this!
Many more storys of drug boats and cuban refugees while I was there, interesting place!!
