one for JFM,

about to order an infrared Maretron TLM-100. Still trying to find a reasonable EU source, but more on that tomorrow...

Thing is all manuals, state:
You configure or program a TLM100 tank type using a display product such as the Maretron DSM250 or Maretron N2KAnalyzer software.

of which I have non and not planning to buy any!
Is there any other option (i.e. s/w running on the laptop) I can use to configure them?
Or should I order it delivered to UK or SOF for JFM to program it and then sent it over to Greece :p ?

from factory they come as fuel level monitors and 40inch deep whereas I want a black water tank and 35odd cm deep...

cheers

If you're going to get lots of maretron gear you'll ultimately have to get n2k analyser or a dsm250

Some dealers will program before shipping. I have a spare dsm250 bnib that I can lend you if that helps. I can mail it then you mail it back. (Reason is that bY mistake I bought a grey one then changed mind and got a black one. Ouch! Grey one has sat on my shelf ever since. I'll put it on eBay when I get time).

thanks John,

I'm just considering this only ultrasound black water tank sender, nothing else as I've had successfully built other type of sensors using bits and bobs I got on the web and mating them with arduinos-more on that on a separate thread in the winter...
Seems that best bet is to get the dealer to change the two settings I need and ship it over.

That's what N2KAnalyzer is, surely? Free to download, but you need a USB100 box to talk to the NMEA network.

Pete
yep, but 250usd for a single use is not particularly cheap is it?

I'll shop around and see what the EU dealers are willing to do before shipping and come back

cheers

Ok sounds good. Remember if you get stuck I can lend you either dsm250 or usb100, both of which I have sitting new on a shelf waiting for me to install.

Vas, why do you want to spend money and time in this Maretron solution ?
I’m convinced this is good stuff, but isn’t it overkill, and lot of hassle for your app.?

8 years ago I have installed these “ultrasonic” level sensors in the water and black tank of our Karnic,

http://www.philippi-online.de/index.php5?url=produkte.php5&m1id=2&sprache=en&kat1_nr=3&kat2_nr=5

delivered ready to install, and cheap,
they still work. (I think)

Not a bad piece of kit Bart, thanks wasn't aware of them.

Only issue is that MiToS is a NMEA2000 zone, hence analogue free instrumentation (except for the IVECOs...)
I can v.easily hook this sensor output to my arduino (it simply outputs 0.5-2.5V), calculate tank level and display it on any of the Garmins onboard, no problem.
If it is cheap (say less than 100euro) I'll get it, cannot see a price anywhere though. Will contact them tomorrow.

Mind, I've bought a couple of Ultrasound sensors for this exact job (5euro each iirc...), but haven't had the time to play with them and tbh don't want to play with sh1t and their smells, I'd rather spend something more and just screw it in and forget :D

I bought mine in the USA the.

Did not know they needed config so then sent one to a uk dealer who did it for £50 as I recall.

I would source from USA and ask them to configure as part of the deal.

yep, should do that, problem is that my last two transactions with US dealers were rather traumatic...
One, I explicitly asked NOT to be shipped via courrier but ONLY with USPS, they used DHL and I got a nice 60euro tax fee to pay.
The last one is a casebook study of indifferent or idiotic employee with me asking, in (I believe) reasonable, simple English something (combining postage for two cables) and him coming back with repeating what I've said giving no answer whatsoever. Getting on my nerves!
Further, he's slow to answer, one email exchange per day AND just to be safe he's replying at the end of his shift just before going home (midnight here, east coast US there...)

Not that things in EU are much better, the company Bart suggested hasn't replied to my email since Thursday.

That's not the way to do business!

.... the company Bart suggested hasn't replied to my email since Thursday.

at that time, I purchased these sensors from
www.gruendl.de in Germany,
they had a nice big paper catalog then,

didn't do business with them recently,
their website is not really inviting,

at least not here with slow internet,
Wifi in Porto Montengor has reached a level of being almost un-useable,
