Looking at Marine Traffic it seems sad that many of those adventurous purple arrows heading west seem to run out of steam at Falmouth or the Scilly Isles at best.

The hazardous terrain and fickle weather conditions of Lands End make more westerly excursions problematical, especially as one needs to get back!

Would not it be possible to resuscitate the idea of a canal between Marazion in Mount's Bay and Hayle on the north coast of Cornwall? So many more destinations!

For power boats there would also be a considerable saving of fuel.

The Crinan Canal is about the same length ( 8.5 miles), is on similar flat land,
and is very popular.

Any thoughts on the viability of the idea? I think it last came up in1906.

Unviable, full stop. But an interesting bit of history!

Helford thru Flambards would be nice but a tunnel would be needed (71m min). Marazion to Hayle can be done at 28 m but that is probably still too much. Unfortunately both speculated routes will be largely under the sea in the next few decades so there is little point in either exercise.rps20220613_205845_831.jpgrps20220613_205652_632.jpg
