Aparently Cardiff barrage will not be lifting bridges between 0935 hrs and 1220 hrs on Sunday, recommending that last lock out should be done at 9.00 if you need the bridge to open.

Bit annoying, I was planning the first overnighter in Excalibur since getting her all sorted and that will be my lie in out the window. Ah well.

Looks like the general concensus is to head back saturday night anyway. Anyone happen to know what the clearance is with the bridges down? Not sure of my air draft now. White Mischief could scrape in with the aerials down, but Excalibur is a fair bit higher I think.

Kind of wipes out working on the boat at Penarth Marina this Sunday . . . I usually plan to be away Marathon weekend but not this one sadly.

The marina access road is closed 0900 to 1200. Will screw up a few peoples weekends no doubt!

Didnt they cock the route up last year so it was 10 yards short of full marathon length or something? Apparently that really matters to some people.

I dont begrudge the marathon runners having their day but I bet lots of people wont know then be pi$$ed off on sunday when they cant lock out when they want to.

Same thing happens in Bristol, major roads closed for a few hours and no traffic any where near the centre.
Doesn't affect the lock or bridge swings though.
As Andy says, can a less distributive router be found, Ashton Court in Bistol's case?
Anyway, by feet are killing me now - 26 miles, bare foot!
:-)

If you look at the route no effort has been made to keep core roads open. Basically Cardiff is closed tomorrow!

Spot on. Knocks my business for six, they have lots of road closures throughout the year that they impose on us down "the bay"but the Marathon one is by far the worse.
