Mar Menor, Spain

Keep going and get the hook wet elsewhere, countless anchorages along the way :) unless of course you're happier tied to a pontoon in which case enjoy there, the Balaerics are not so affordable.. Anchoring near Torreviega will make wife's taxi ride back cheaper by 50 euro or more for sure :)

No taxi ride for her.. I have send a Donkey so she knows what it is like to sit on your Ass for a week.

No taxi? Yes there are, also private people who do taxi runs to and from marina area. I think the Boss is sending you a pm with tried and tested services. Less than 60 euro from recollection, any of the bars at the marina will give you a telephone number and/or name - simples :)). Ask for Tony the Hat, tiny boat with a welsh flag. I've never had an issue sorting transport for the Boss from there.

Woke up this morning to find that the fishermen have placed a large net right next to the boat. If the wind changes direction it is in our swinging circle and we are going to end up covered in net. Looks like we are going to have to re anchor.
If anyone wants to see the perils of entering the Mar Menor there is a video on our latest blog at

I think the fisherman will be keeping an eye on them Nostro, your boat will do far more damage to his nets than the other way around!

That's just ridiculous. If one were mischievous, you'd almost want to "accidentally" drift into the net and cut it to shreds!

Nostro,

Plenty of depth on the way in, it comes up at 2 places, to about 4 feet, below the keel, and we also draw 6ish feet.
If you think the jelly fish are bad now, just wait until the end of August!!!!!!!!!!!, as the north easterly that blows all summer, herds them ALL in the M.M.
The winds a daily thing, picking up most morning, and propping away at night.
Both the Torrevieja marinas are good, as already mentioned, but a few good anchorages if you are hopping up the cost, Tabarca, Santa Pola, San Joan Bolt Hole. Calpe, Moraira, In and around the Isla del Portixol and round into Javier bay.

Enjoy.

Thanks Big Joe.. If you are in this area I would quiet happily share a beer with you... I need to lighten the load to make sure we can get out... It was a shock having passed the shallows and under the bridge to see my navionics chart showing 1.1m depth just before leaving the canal entrance.. luckily this has been dredged.
The marina for us there should we want to go in is 45 euros a night. (winter rates)... next week it goes up to summer rates (70 euros a night)....

Nostro,

Just got back from work today and we are planning to take the boat over to the Balearics for a couple of weeks, around the middle of the week, so I am about Monday Tuesdayish.
Are you still in the Mar Manor ?
Or have you discovered the cosmopolitan metropolis that is Torrevieja.

Mr Joe,
Still in the Mar Menor but after today I wish I wasn't. The wind got up a bit and the boat decided to take a wander across the puddle on her own. Five times we have had to re anchor after dragging. Each time we brought the anchor up we had a bucket full of mud and a Brazilian rain forest on the anchor.
God I hate weed and I also know I am not going to sleep well tonight.
We will attempt to escape either tomorrow or Tuesday.

Ahhhhhh, the dreaded Mar Menor mudded up anchor sketch.

Must admit I have had a few of those.

Hope that you didn’t disturb the seahorses, not sure if there’s any left.

Drop me a line when you are up in Torra V,

Mark,

Cant gat my m essendger to send ....................

OK, that’s cool, we will be about tomorrow, still unsure whether to depart for Formentera Tuesday or Wednesday.

If you have a dingy, you could pop in for a beer, and some lunch?.

Have a safe trip,

Joe.
