Has anybody managed to obtain UK tidal data for 2009 to use with Chart Navigator and Maptech Charts? Also having tried a demo of Chart Navigator Pro the UK tidal data seemed extremely sparse (even with the current tidal data for Chart Navigator loaded) Is this the case with the full version?

I have just discovered that Maptech are struggling to make the 2009 tidal data compatible with Chart Navigator Pro (software bought in) - hence the delay in issue.

I have been harrassing them since before Christmas, and finally received the following today. It is public domain information, so no worries - and they have screwed me around for so long I don't care !! All worked Ok for me.

Downloading and installing 2009/2010 Tide Data

To install 2009/2010 tidal data please follow all the steps below:

1. Download the zip file from the link below and extract the contents of the zip file to a folder of your choice on your PC.

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/maptech/tidedata.zip

2. Open the folder you have extracted the files too above and click Edit > Select All and then Edit > Copy on the menu. (Vista users click Organize > Select All and then Organize > Copy)

3. Open the folder "Chartkit" on your C: drive.

Create a "TIDES" folder (if there is not one already) and then open this folder

Click Edit > Paste (Vista users Organize > Paste) from the menu to paste all the BAxxx.C1 & BAxxx.T1 tide files into here.

4. Open the directory C:\Program Files\Maptech\Offshore Navigator (or Lite)\Data

and again click Edit > Paste or Organize > Paste to paste all the BAxxx.C1 & BAxxx.T1 files into here also.

For Offshore Navigator / Offshore Navigator Lite users

Please make sure you are using the latest version of Offshore Navigator / Offshore Navigator Lite. The latest version is 5.08 and can be downloaded from:

Offshore Navigator 5.08 - http://www.maptechnavigation.com/support/doc.cfm?docid=175&CFID=1946982&CFTOKEN=56343238

Offshore Navigator Lite 5.08 - http://www.maptechnavigation.com/support/doc.cfm?docid=176&CFID=1946982&CFTOKEN=56343238

For Chart Navigator / Chart Navigator Pro users

An updated DLL is required by Chart Navigator / Chart Navigator Pro to read the new tides. To install this update:

1. Download the zip file from the link below and extract the files to a temporary folder of your choice on your PC.

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/maptech/CNP_tides_fix.zip

2. open the folder you have extracted the files too above and click Edit > Select All and then Edit > Copy on the menu. (Vista users click Organize > Select All and then Organize > Copy)

3. If you have Chart Navigator: -

Please now browse to

C:\Program Files\Maptech Chart Navigator.

Click Edit > Paste or Organize > Paste, replacing any files if prompted

Close the open Windows and start Chart Navigator

If you have Chart Navigator Pro: -

Please now browse to

C:\Program Files\Maptech Chart Navigator Pro.

Click Edit > Paste or Organize > Paste, replacing any files if prompted

Close the open Windows and start Chart Navigator Pro

Nick

Just worked for me with Chart Navigator from a 2006 Maptech CD of Solent Area which ran out of sensible tides as at 31/12/2008.

Really well done - I spent two or three hours earlier today trying to find anything re new tide downloads on the Maptech website and generally on Google, but without any success, so a very big thank you from me! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

PS for info for anyone with Chart Navigator- I couldn't find any Data sub folder within the Maptech Chart Navigator folder in Programs (XP), just Gazeteer, System, Guide Book & World, but saved it within the Maptech Chart Navigator Folder & this worked fine.

Thanks Nick. One thing intrigues me about this...

[/ QUOTE ]There are 124 files zipped up in this download. From the filenames it's obvious that 62 are for 2009 and 62 are for 2010. The interesting thing is that each file for 2009 is identical with the one for 2010! Not surprising as they appear to contain 'tidal diamond' and 'tidal height' info - no ephemeral data at all. I just wonder why they need to be replaced annually.

It occured to me that, come the end of 2010, if the next year's files are not available, one could easily generate them by opening a DOS window, going to the directory where the 2009/2010 files are, and typing:-
COPY BA???10.?? BA???11.??

That should do the lot in one go!
