trying to load maptech charts into Seaclear chart list but having dificulty. the Seaclear user guide states clearly that this is straightforward but the import tool in seaclear does not seem to recognise the CAP chart files. Any experience of this or ideas?

Before using maps in Seaclear (menu maps: list of maps , I suppose?), you must usually import them with Mapcal (Seaclear calibration utility), using the menu (tools:autoload list: scan for new charts), after having defined the directories containing the maps in the menu (tools : set directories)

Hi achwilan
thanks for suggestion unfortunately this is the problem - I am using the mapcal calibration utility but when I scan for new charts thes are not recognised. Have you used the mapcal utility successfully with Maptech or other charts?
thanks keith

If your Maptech charts are BSB 4 encrypted, then you cannot use them in Sea Clear. It only supports up to BSB 3.

As mentioned by MOTORBAD, your problem lies in the crypto protections devised by Maptech for the late BSB versions
I used prehistoric SHOM maps, so Mapcal & Seaclear worked fine.
Looks like you are bound to throw banknotes overboard to purchase some proprietary up-to-date software....
But perhaps you should try the new Raytech planner (cf Raymarine website: it's a free limited version of RaytechRNS navigational software... great but needs a lot of cpu & memory for all the bells and whistles...).
