Looks as if the boat is going to be delayed now due to lack of full cover!!! Sodding brokers!!!

Feel like a bit of credit card bashing so... what you would advise for computer software - south coast - to create way points to down load to a hand held GPS for when I do get the boat in the water? Ideally nothing too pricey please.

If you get software that reads C-Map (which you should, because it's the joint best) I can sell you a CMap NT chip for Solent. It's original, in case, about 18mths old, surplus becos boat is now in Med. 1/3 of new price. I think it stretches Weymouth to Beachy head, ish, but need to check

I use Maptech, which links with my Garmin GPS fine. You effectively buy the chart and get the reading software free (does have some limitations, tracks and autopilot disabled). The area I bought covers Poole to Dover, made up of about 20 main charts - cost £99 from www.mesltd.co.uk, the full version with everything enabled is about £165. I think it was quite good value for money, probably wish I had bought the full version now as I've been told there isn't an upgrade option.

some will enable you to download waypoints direct from mapping software as I understand it and some can't even be connected to anything else!
A waypoint directory will give them to you for 'entering' into any unit; or if you go up market slightly you can get a handhelp plotter which will combine all the functions - they are not really that expensive relative to seperate mapping software, a connection lead of some sort and the maps for the mapping software.........

www.maptech.com or have a look at www.memory-map.co.uk there is a free download here and a chart of the IOW - basically the Maptech software is near enough the same so it will give you an idea of how it works. I started playing with the free memory map download, liked it, went to buy it but was told that for my uses the Maptech one was the one to buy as it seems more geared towards marine navigation.
