Just bought a 300W unit for £30 at Maplin. They have a deal in for 600W units for the same price at the moment. These didn't have a fag lighter (oops sorry automotive accessory) connector for obvious reasons so that's why I went for the 300W one. But 600W modified sine-wave for £30 sounds a good deal.

Would you want a 600w connected directly to the battery yeah? I have a 150w through the fag lighter but it doesnt run the GF's hair straightener so "Its not good enough" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I bought a small (about 150 W) Maplins inverter about 3 years ago. It was fine as long as the boat's engine was not running. The Adverc alternator regulator boosts the voltage to about 14.53V and the inverter would overheat and cut out. Now they are probably a better design that can cope with variations in input voltage.
