I have done with replacing our two whale flipper pumps seals, they even leak when almost new. The whale vertical pump seems OK for me but wifey finds the up stroke awkward to use frequently so I am looking at the choice of manual pumps on the market. From initial internet and eBay searches the choice is really limited. There is one by 5 oceans that seems cheap but I already have two pumps that drip and dribble water everwhere-does anyone know if there pumps are any better than the whale pumps?

We have the complete opposite experience. The flipper pump works well, and is dry, but vertical pump leaks out of the top.

Why don't you install a cheap Chinese pressure pump? They are only about $A50 (£26?)

My boat had a Flipper pump when I bought her 19 years ago. I've no idea how old it was. There was a slight weep around the outlet pipe but a new sealing-ring easily cured that.

Two years ago the shaft broke and I had to buy a new Flipper. It cost ca £55.

That doesn't seem a bad record of reliability to me.

Anyway, I wouldn't want any other type of galley pump because I've memorised how many strokes are needed for different purposes, eg 9 for two mugs of tea, 15 for a hot water bottle, 20 for a strip-wash, etc!:D

Our previous boat had a Whale vertical pump (which leaked), the new one has a pressurised water system. I'm happy to have hot and cold running water on the newer, more luxurious boat - but we do use a lot more of it now!

A manual by hand 2 litre mineral water bottle. One moving part, the lid. Don't drop the lid behind the galley. Very little else can go wrong....

I fitted a Fynspray pump to my last boat, and it worked very well. Mine came from Penguin Engineering, but I don't see them there any more. However, Aquafax seem to hold some Fynspray stuff and they are available retail from Toplicht: http://www.toplicht.de/en/shop/pump...mpe/pantrypumpe/fynspray-pantrypumpe-auckland

They also sell this little beauty

How about a Whale gusher foot operated pump? That's what I've got & no leaks.

100% agree, we've got two of these (one salt, one fresh), super reliable, hands free operation and easy to fix even if you do have a problem.

I have just fitted a second foot pump for hot water, decided to not go down the pressurised route as only have a small water tank and with a wife and daughter onboard.......

Issue I am having is finding a suitable spout/outlet unless I go for one with taps and just leave them open. Anyone come across anything suitable?

Same problem here. A normal tap that is just left on is the only answer I've thought of.

+1. Had fresh and salt water ones for 17 years. Even carried a spares kit but never needed it.
You can't really call them manual though. Pedial?

Ah how did I not see that before. Although it does look exactly like what I had on my Vega, and it leaked like a sieve. Maybe mine were defective.

It it leaked, it probably just needed a new seal. I had one on my old boat, and it was fine for many years.
