Mantus Anchor

Been considering one myself, but notice that although the UK agent no longer sells online, they do sell these on ebay as 'seasupplies' at a little less than the Dutch company, once you add on their carriage cost.

Over the winter, I am going to buy the dinghy version of this anchor for my RIB.
This one
http://www.mantusanchors.com/mantus-dinghy-anchor/

So if you find anywhere local (in Europe), please let me know.

I suspect that it might not be big enough for a 350kg (ish) RIB but it ought to be better than the small Bruce anchor that I currently have in the locker.
A light modern anchor might do the job and the galvanised option isn't very expensive so I thought I'd give it a try.

This year, I've used the dinghy anchor for holding the stern off when going into rocks or quays - just throw the anchor off the back - pull it in tight and when you tie the bow off, the dinghy will pull itself back from the quay - saving it rubbing on the quay. Even the old Bruce works well doing this - a Mantus should do it better.

Jez,

I could ask the Athens dealer if he's happy to post to SC, but i'd expect the cost to be considerable.
Good thing with Mantus is that they come flat packed, my 20kg one was on a wooden box 50X90X10cm (approx)

cheers

I'll give them a call on Monday then (just have to remember..)

Well impressed with mine, first time that I could really feel the boat stopping on reversing after dropping the anchor... OK, previous was a tired bruce.

You should spent some hours (or days) reading noelex reports on the cruiser forum (iirc, been some time I went through all that)

I think it's a brilliant choice.
BTW, what size are you after J?

cheers

Jez,

Talked to the www.nautilus.gr guys in Athens, they can sell the 65lb to you.
They estimated 1000euro (800anchor and 200shipping) That's not an official offer I was on the phone for 5 mins with them and just mentioned delivery to Med Spain close to Barcelona. It may end up 1050 or so or drop down to 950...
He prefers to be paid via bank xfer (ebanking is fine) rather than charging your UK credit card, shouldn't be a problem.

I'll PM his details if you want to either give them a call or email them for further details.

Disclaimer, not my mates, been to their premises three times, to see the Mantus, to buy the Mantus and to buy a couple of other bits (blackwater tank ultrasound sensor, deck wash system fe...) They are one of the largest chandlers in Athens and a very helpful bunch.

cheers

I am a bit late, did you already order?

But Ildost in Holland list sizes up to 56kg.
This link gives both the cost and the carriage charge to elsewhere in Europe, so if no luck with the Orkney stockist, they might be the best bet?

This is the place where I ordered my 38kg. With delivery to the boat in Greece. EUR 835, tax and shipping included.

Re the size, a pity that the 38kg doesn't fit on your boat. Is it a matter of windlass or bow design? Our boats are similar in size and weight, and I took the bigger one on purpose. I had gusts up to 40kts of Keffalonia this year and the boat did not move. What an upgrade from the previous Fortress!

Or bought one yet. I'd be happy with €835 inc everything but that's a lot less than the price on the web. Did you negotiate or was it on offer?

I'm going to Düsseldorf in January with a shopping list so might try to deal face to face.

I think my windlass might struggle to lift a 40kg anchor, and 30kg is 50% bigger than I currently have plus newer design.
The alternative is a 33kg rocna

I did not negociate nor what is an offer, but I made a few inquiries and they were the cheapest. I ordered in August 2015. What are they quoting now? What windlass do you have, if I may ask?

I am not sure that the weight of the anchor makes a big difference. The weight of your anchor is probably only a small portion of the global weight of your whole anchoring gear (chain + anchor). But its true that my windlass (Maxwell VWC 3500) struggles a bit to pull the Mantus out of the mud. But with some patience, and from time to time gently driving over it, here it comes.

It also pulls your boat which in adverse conditions is quite load
