Is there a jetty or a landing spot for a dinghy here. I am thinking of going to the top of the hamble this weekend and taking the dinghy up the river. It would be good to be able to land at the park if possible-I have 3 young lads to excersise!

Thanks.

No jetty that I'm aware of but (particularly at high tide) you should be able to get ashore straight on to terra firma in several grassy spots and there are a couple of little bits of gravel where you can land, iirc.

I used to live round the corner from there but it's been a while. since I've visited, so strictly e&oe.

You can definitely get ashore at the Coach and Horses in Curbridge (above the Park) at HW, so that could be an alternative /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Jetty as previously described. There is a small river cruiser that occasionally stops at the jetty, so don't leave your dinghy on the hammerhead.

But, be careful if you tie up to the metal ring thingy (technical term that) surrounding the pile. When the tide turns the pontoon moves so that it jams up against the metal surround. Caught me out and I was unable to free the bike padlock chain, so had to leave it behind, and cut away the painter.

To get to Manor Farm turn right when you step ashore. Not actually gone there on foot from the jetty, but my guess is that it is about a 15 minute walk.

I went up there yesterday. There is a small jetty on the left bank used by disabled and young children. There was a catamaran motorboat which takes them and their wheelchairs up and down the Hamble, I' not sure if this is run by the manor Farm people or Fairthorne Manor YMCA, but there are also canoes there. The way to work it is to go up with the incoming tide and back on the ebb, preferably Springs, that gives you an easier paddle. There are small inlets all the way up and you can land almost anywhere but there are swans nesting with their cygnets sobeware ggoing near the nesting sites(10 swans)! the branch to starboard takes you to the 'Horse and Jockey 'pub, but is very shallow and beware of fallen tree branches if motoring(a spare shear pin and pliers would be prudent) If a sailing dinghy you will likely have to lower your mast to get under the 3 bridges , thereafter clear water.
6 knots speed ,and wash limits too. All unspoilt and litter free cos we take it home!
Enjoy!
