I've been assisting a mate who had a problem, water ingress, through a Deep Sea Seal at launch; boat came back out.
We have shifted the shaft side of the seal down toward the fixed side and retightened the two hose clamps as much as possible. We are fairly sure we have the 10mm of 'pressure' between the two bellows. We've also put a hose clip direct onto the shaft to hopefully preclude any future slippage.
A question, the fixed side of the seal has a spigot for water/air inlet/outlet but there's nothing attached and nothing obviously blocking the spigot, it's always been like this apparently. He also has an old seal that looks the same and there is no way into the seal from the spigot. Were they supplied like this? Was one expected to drill through from the spigot to the 'inside'?
Another, unrelated, question... There is, what I assume to be, a flexible coupling. Essentially output flange from gearbox, block of rubber, shaft coupling. There are four longitudinal bolts through the three components. All four bolts were loose. This did not seem right so I've tightened them up pretty hard. Anybody got any information on this arrangement? Nothing in the workshop manual.

Might be time for replacement. They were never very satisfactory even when new - later ones had an emergency clamp added to seal them off if the bellows failed. Not very confidence boosting. Seem to remember the spigot was there to add a water feed. Think you are right to tighten the bolts although going slack of their own accord suggests the rubber might be degrading.

Thanks
Given enough time we would at least have taken the old seal off and inspected. Unfortunately the boat is an Anderson (Hurley) 30 and requires a pit to drop the rudder enabling the prop & shaft to be moved aft/removed.
We'll have to wait until she's resplashed to see if the adjustments have worked.
