Well if you believe one of the "Auf Wiedesehn Pet" plot lines the 'other' transporter bridge was dismantled and sold to a group of American Indians to bridge a gorge on their reservation to improve their economic position. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The truth is..its still in Middlesborough, and I've used it a few times over the years /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it's tragic that this historic waterway will be closed to traffic by 2015.

Surely there is more to life than putting up 'affordable housing'.

Didn't they used to charge a toll to cross it,

That will be the Partington toll bridge which is on the outskirts of Lymm, the ship canal has a high bridge over it and the small bridge that you pay to go over, now, no longer has water passing under it as the MSC diverted it when built.

Rumour has it that the owner wouldnt sell the right of way and was allowed to charge to cross "his" bridge. It has been a good source of income ever since and has passed hands many times over the years.
