Man who needs rescuing by the RNLI turns out to have parked in front of their boat shed so they can't get out..

Car owner blocks in lifeboat then calls for help

Many people commented in support of the RNLI, calling the car owner “stupid”, “inconsiderate” and an “absolute tool”, with suggestions that the car should have been “unceremoniously moved without care” or that the team “should just pick it up with a forklift and drag it out the way.”

Add me to the forklift comments, but there ought to be a £500 ticket for blocking emergency services as well.

I wonder if it's the same [naughty word deleted] who got his knickers in a twist because an ambulance was parked less than perfectly while the crew were a bit busy saving someone's life.[/quote]

I would love it if the RNLI had the statutory rights of the fire brigade: Vehicle blocking the way? Smash window, handbrake off and roll it out of the way. Oh, the car ended up in the drink? Still the driver's fault.

Isn't it launched with a tractor... But then I guess they would have been sued for damages.
W.

Good idea in theory, but if the boat gets pushed out, it would suffer damage against the car.

In reality, then yes we could move a car if life was in danger, but we'd need to minimise any damage caused.

People seem genuinely miffed when I ask them not to park in front of our boathouse doors.

Comments have ranged from "I'm only going to be a few minutes", through "Well where else am I supposed to park?" to the classic

"You can't launch anyway" (another car was already blocking us in) "so I might as well park here too".

Which she did, before walking off with her family for a day on the beach.

Which is not the normal way of towing, or the easy way of driving a "trailer". But makes sense for launching! (The word "tractor" is based on pulling. Is there a connection between "pulling" and "attraction"?)
I'm no expert, but I think having the 'towing vehicle' higher up the slipway than 'the boat' has a sound basis in tradition.

I help organise a community event where we close a village square and its then covered in marquees bouncy castles pens withs goats and sheep, etc etc, anyway every year we get 2 or 3 people who think they are important enough to ignore the lawful street closure notices etc and one year one vehicle caused real chaos due to where it was parked and we had to reorganise the layout so the following year we did all the paperwork and hired in a towtruck (y) this time 3 cars left, everyone was warned, 06.01 AM we got the first car hooked up shims under the wheels and dragged up the lorry bed lots of noise flashing lights and off went the first one swiftly followed by the other 2 cars driven by half dressed panniced drivers, jobs a good un. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Put up the signs get the paperwork and tow them away, the liability rests with the driver doing the towing, the guy who did ours was very careful and knew what he was doing.

Slight 'Fred Drift' ere but the Teignmouth Life Boat , a rib , has its Boathouse facing directly onto the long Launching slipway , nice n easy one might think , BUT

Between the Boathouse and the Slipway is a road that leads to a Car Park , no where else but the Car Park . This road is fed by a small local road that has mainly Retired Folk living in the Flats /Appartments / Homes running alongside , this road has Double Yellow lines to restrct Parking on its length , but of course us of a certain age etc might get a Blue Badge which can afford us 3 hrs parking on said Double Yellows ; so this road gets cloged up with Blue Badge holders parking , right outside their Homes .

Well one day a SHOUT went out so this small n short Car Park feeder road gets blocked up by Cars wanting to exit the Car Park , Blue Badge Holders parking along it and the Lifeboat Persons wanting to gain access to the Boathouse ; cripes what a mangled web indeed ensued ; Very soon the Council made it a NO PARKING unless holding a pass (lifeboat persons type of pass) so problems solved , untill a Blue Badge Holder does not read the signs , and parks there {:-(#
