Earlier in the year we talked about repeating the man overboard practice day that took place in 2008 (write up here: http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175610).

We identified Sept 18th as the preferred date and Marconi SC on the Blackwater as the venue.

The plan will be to start proceedings ahortly after lunch and run through the afternoon. We'll light the big barbie for the evening - bring your own stuff to cook on it - and we'll open the bar.

Last time we practiced recovering a casualty to a moored cruiser which proved highly educational for all involved (and a bit of a laugh too). If there's demand and kind conditions we might try to do something with a moving boat this time too.

If you have mob gear you'd like to test (bought or cobbled together) please bring it and we'll need a couple of volunteers to go in the water! I'll have the club rib there for support.

and I will have Flipper and GF Flipper too.

We have the donated 4 man liferaft which needs a decent exercise.
 
We certainly intend to come.

If the tides and the weather are OK, we'll sail round on Saturday morning, and if it's not, we'll drive over like we did last year.
 
this weekend is the one i may be moving "micarallee" from tollesbury to the roach so if things work out i may be able to come across from there and meet you all at marconi and then chug round to the crouch "in company" on sunday especialy as the boat is still in a un sorted state :(

if my boat is still not in the water by then i dont mind helping out on a another boat if anyone has room :rolleyes:
 
My (Mad) friend Jaap likes to keep me on my toes, so when out on the Medway we spotted local sailing school, Elite Sailing, doing MOB with fender and bucket.

Bearing in mind this was in early March, Jaap jumps overboard, wearing his drysuit, with no warning, leaving me on my own to spin the boat around and pick him up in easy conditions, i.e 10 knots of breeze and good visibility.

We were sailing downwind and tide under white sail, which left an easy pick up, but a couple of things need mentioning for those without crazy friends!

The distance covered at 6 knots between splash incident and stopping the boat is greater than you might think, a calm 'casualty' in a bright yellow drysuit is hard to spot
even with arm raised and the feeling of aloneness when 2 become 1!

Add in some proper weather and sea/darkness and you had better have your MOB procedures sorted..... which all adds up to make this weekend very worthwhile.
 
Forewarned is forearmed - thanks for the tip off ;)

SWMBO is wondering if we should go to Southampton instead this weekend, so now we're in all of a dither. No doubt we will make a decision at the last minute on Friday night as usual... :rolleyes:
 
Very disappointed to say that we can't make this now. Have to attend to boring domestic duties instead. :mad: Bugger - have been looking forward to it all year!

The upside is that my house has rented in Lincoln, but I need to go up there again to remove the unwanted furniture before they move in.
 
Looks like I would be the only boat there, so on suggestion from MArmalade, perhaps we should save the liferaft, and reschedule this to next year.
Pity, but I think this event warrants a good turnout.

What does the rest of the panel think?
 
I agree with Jim - i think it's best to postpone this event until eary next season as we were down to one boat travelling. Anyone fancy meeting up in Brightlingsea on Saturday evening for a ruby?
