and is electric really the total solution ? I mean, what is the noisiest part of your boat ? Answer, your electric bow thruster
I have a Torqeedo, and an aluminium rib of the same size. I set up a solar panel and bought an inverter and then thought sod this! I’ll use the generatorI have an electric outboard on the tender, Propulsion spirit 1.0, it is absolutely silent, only when unleashing is mighty "3HP equivalent" you hear a faint whining in the background. For normal tender use from boat to beach or bit of exploring around is unbeatable, zero starting problems, weight 8kg + 8kg battery, as long as you move just under displacement speed it last around 2 hours (my tender is a Arimar 270 rigid keel).
Only issue is recharging needs genset running (or I need to buy the 12v charger).
Electric isnt the only way out - alternative fuel is already used in pilotboats : www.scandinaos.com/methanol.htmlCheck out the modes. Every which way .
MAN Smart HYBRID Experience with up to 2,500 hp
Also “ECA “ s ………Emission Control Areas . Yup we thought weed and or seahorses restriction where a impingement .Well how about in the near future this bay ( even whole island ) is a ECA ?
The direction of travel in bigger boats .
It is only a 55KW motor. But you would still need to park it next to CERN to get an adequate charge
That was worth the reading, Porto, thanks. Someone at MAN has been doing a lot of clever thinking. All I need is for them to develop a hybrid system of 1/100th the capacity and I will rush out and buy one.
Currently, I have as much chance of dominating the market as electric motors. ?@LBRodders is working on a nuclear powered outboard….all will be well ?
