Man fined £18,000 for illegal river development

I think the bit above Shillingford with the lighter on the bank was bought by a fishing club. No moorings there.

South Oxon are quite hot on inappropriate development apparently.

Perhaps that council might like to contact one or two councils on the Medway and give them a few hints .
Every visit above the lock reveals even more scaffold poles driven into the bank and decking landing stages with little "gardens" being planted on the river bank.
The livaboard wrecks have all gone to be replaced by those able to afford expensive twee custom built sheds on a pontoon for that bijou little weekend retreat.

Is it Unicumes lane you are referring to?

Interesting area.

As for the item in the OP it is up the rather long weir stream behind Clifton lock. Looking on Google satellite view it appears someone has cut a channel off the River into a parcel of land. I can't open the link on my phone but I wonder if it is there.

There was a planning application for a boathouse connected to a school or college up there at one time. Mooring plots occasionally come up for sale also.

Still, he’s had 3 years of living rent free in a lovely spot - you’d be hard pushed to rent a room with a squalid view for £6k a year!
Reading the report on SOxon website, it seems that he is still there - fines are for NOT complying with the enforcement order.
No mention of when the order will be complied with.

Nope that old news :(
New rather posh weekend shedonnapontoon, sorry home has popped up on the south shore above Allington Lock in the area opposite Allington castle and Allington Marina.
Complete with scafford/decking landing stage and de rigur "garden" .
It may have a tiny weeny outboard on the stern, possibly to infer it is not a permant houseboat but a continuous cruiser ?

Nattering to a lockie.
The Thames can do something about unlicenced moorings due to "accomodation" regulations
The Medway does not have this advantage.
