Malta: Urgent Advice Needed

I am helping a friend to take his boat from Sicily to Malta next week (Tuesday) and URGENTLY would like some advice from anyone who knows Malta and can recommend a good marina to try and find a berth for a couple of weeks.

"Good" meaning:central location, facilities, reasonable price.

If anybody has some recent experience then I would really appreciate their advice.

All the marinas fulfil those criteria, except perhaps Grand Harbour which is a bit pricey, and they are mostly grouped around Valletta. You will have no difficulty finding them. However they are very popular so you might not have much choice of berths when you get there.

Been quite a few times but now with a boat so no real experience. But, huo;8ir5wgyt abave you thought of Gozo? May be less popular. Meliha Bay is certainly a good spot for an overnight anchor. Very sheltered unless the wind is blowiong right in

Largest marina is run by Creek Developments. I suggest that you call George Mercieca (berthing master) on (+356) 2133 7049 and ask about availability. They are in the process of renewing the pontoons but might be able to fit you in for a couple of weeks, depending on the size of boat. As for "reasonable pricing", I'm afraid that is rather subjective. You might get an idea if you visit their website www.creekdevelopments.com

Be sure to get some sunblock with you as the forecast for Tuesday is 37 Celsius with a UV index of 11+

EDIT: Just checked on http://marinamalta.com/ and it seems that no visitor berths will be available for the duration of the renovation. Sorry.

Thanks to everyone for the most helpful replies. Called Portomaso Marina this morning they have a berth available; Euro 80 a night including water, electricity; not what I call reasonable, but my friend is paying ........

Thanks again for the help, guys. Temperature is "not a problem" as it has been nearly that in Nettuno for last couple of weeks!!!! and also I have ordered my friend to stock up on cold beer!

When we were there winter 2010/11 the last of the publicly owned marinas was privatised and the prices were hiked outrageously. Also, there was serious difficulty finding a place.
If price is a problem, Gozo is an option. You could also try Karkala (on the left as you enter Grand Harbour or, longer shot, last I heard, a couple of guys, John and Steve, were setting up a small "marina" at Sliema just inside Marsamshlok harbour on the right. (No good if Gregale blowing, mind you.)

What about Manuel Island? I think thats how it is spelt. Not actually an island, it was 95 I was there so may well have changed.

Not an option that I would willingly take! I used to visit there regularly for winter weekends. Not anymore. Since it was privatised the rates have trebled and you need to book AND pay in advance...too bad if you cannot make it because of bad weather. No thank you, not for me.
