We'll be bareboat chartering a 7M RIB when in Malta soon, pickup from beside Valetta.

Friend was over there recently and said he found plenty of spots for swimming etc. and that the charter guy gave them a basic map etc...

However, any 'must do' / 'must see' when day chartering a RIB? Not sure what the range on the RIB is (250HP Yamaha) but I won't be afraid to burn a bit of juice to get to some nice destinations.

unfortunately Blue Lagoon in Summer is packed to bone, if it was like that in Summer it would be awesome. BTW Mike that was a nice day and it brought nice memories, what was it 09 or 10.

The nicest spot are in Gozo and in the West Coast. Gozo has the Red Beach (ramla Hamra) and SanBlas, and Mgarr Ix-Xini (just after Xlendi) is also worth a viewing esp with a small rib.
The West Coast has Golden Sands and Apples Eyes and before them you get Apples Eyes.
Beside these the best at Comino is just behind the Blue Lagoon, or how Mike's photo is pointing us under that castle and the canal which leads from the Blue Lagoon to Crystal Lagoon.

Anyways in case you need more fuel there is a fuel station in Gozo's Mgarr Harbour at the bottom of the harbor.

Happy Cruising.

As per the above, the 'Lagoon' should be crowded but in a RIB not too problamatical
Even Valleta harbour is a 'firtle' for a day
Lovely place Malta and lovely people
Your 'range' in the RIB will be 150 miles easy I reckon
all things considered, tank etc

Im quite bloody jealous!
Love the Place
(y) :(?

I've not been back for a long time, it worries me that what I liked about Malta may have changed since they took the EU 'shilling'
First trip there I got taken to the Royal Malta Yacht club in an old crusader Fort on Manoel Island, with a nighttime view across the water to the floodlit bastions of Valletta, fell in love with the place & people.
I saw every car I had ever owned still running around.

Happy days.

As usual, the forum turns up trumps. Thank you all for some great information. I'm off to Google locations mentioned above, i'm sure i'll have a few more questions this evening.

Thanks again all.

Why not go right around the island?

The plan is to leave Valetta and head North, circumnavigating the island anti-clockwise.

I'm guessing from above posts I should also explore Gozo a little?

We will of course visit Blue Lagoon which is on the island of Comino.

There's so much choice, I really don't know what to do! This will certainly be the peak activity of our Malta trip.

Dingli Cliffs and Blue Grotto are very deep areas and are not good for any anchoring as the sea in that area even under the cliffs is quite deep.

We'll have enough Anchoring done up at the Blue Lagoon. We're as much after scenic places to drive - by / pull in to for some pics / chilling out.
