I have just recently arrived in Port Vell Barcelona from Corfu, a good trip but motored most of the way. I have a few friends coming out for a weeks sailing and I want to take them to Port Soleil in Mallorca which I know, any other suggestions for nice anchorages would be appreciated bearing in mind they only have a week.

Puerto Collum on the Southeast coast is good shelter, small town. Andraix is big and crowded. On Ibiza, Benniras (North East corner) is beautiful and big, pretty empty. Check out the Victoria rock and the drum parties. Three restaurants, all good, no shops. Watch for north and northeast winds. Minorca - got to see Mahon. Wow. And a little cove on the south coast, Cala'n Porter. have fun.

Should have mentioned the Island off Malloca - Callabra, is it? You have to get permission in Palma, not hard to do. The people at Pier 94 - or something like that - only berth refered to in that way in Palma - are very helpful. And the anchorage, and the protected little island. Something else. Like going back in time a hundred years.

Too many options!

Formentera is the most beautiful island in the world. I swam there to remove the dinghy painter from the prop in November, and stayed in for ages, so beautiful, turquoise water, clear as gin, warm. Jealous, I am (but back there soon)

Thank you for your input clouty, I'll be staying in Barcelona for 12 months so should be able to explore all the islands.

I agree with the suggestions about Isla de Cabrera (more fish here than almost anywhere else in the Med - great for snorkelling) and the anchorage on Isla Espalmador. I would also add Pollensa on the NW corner of Mallorca as one of the best anchorages in the Islas Baleares. There is plenty of room, it is well protected, holding is good, the scenery is fantastic, there are great walks ashore and there are two marinas to run to if the weather turns rough.
