Mallorca....

Agree with Meddreamer. Mallorca is a big island. You need to tell us where you will be based, how long you will be there for and what kind of thing you want to do

Yup sorry based NE of the island, 1 weeks, but like to explore and sail rather than spend all day at anchor, but would like to drop the hook some time for a swim. dont mind long passages, if it's worth it when you get there.

thanks

Pop in to Porto Colom for lunch, there is an excellent shop near the public quay for topping up with food and drink, The cala's just before Cala D'Or are very nice. Also worth a trip out the Cabrera Islands but you must get a permit before hand.

Hi Aidy,

I have just seen your email on the forum of MBY regarding what to do in Mallorca ?, I own a Marine engineering company in Mallorca, I am the agent for Tecma toilets and Besenzoni.

I live near the marina Portals, you should vist the South West of Mallorca. There is a fantasitc place at Cala LLamp (Yamp) a great restaurant and swimming pool as a must is Portals Vells, it also has a beach bar which does a fantastic Paella. You can anchor in the port of Andratx, which is close to both bays.

have a great season, Noel www.lil-italy.net

Ah, Tecma. 'The world of toilet'. Jolly fine appliances, lousy slogan. I hope I never need you, no offence /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The whole of the east coast of Mallorca is heavily indented with calas. Take your pick. Mondrago is my favourite but it's more to the south end. The north side has 2 large bays, Alcudia and Pollensa. There is an attractive anchorage off Formentor with buoys but they charge. The NW coast is very mountainous and very scenic. Very few anchorages but Calobra is definitely worth a visit. Further south is the town of Soller which is worth a visit. If you're based in N Mallorca, you can cross about 40 miles to the south coast of Menorca where there are many attractive anchorages
But really it's a case of carefully reading a good pilot book like the Imray one and making a choice of where you fancy

Best place is Cabbrera Its an island off majorca (about 15 NM) no tourists only accesible by boat. The island is a nature reserve, you have to apply to the captinaire for a permit. You can apply at any marina just take your boat papers and they will print off the permit. You will see what Majorca was like before the tourist invasion.

Hi Micheal,
Yes Tecma is the best marine toilet and I hope you never have a problem. Keep a note of my details just in case as your Ferretti 46 has both Tecma and Besenzoni products, I can also supply many of the interior and exterior fittings.
Many thanks, Noel

Thanks, Noel. Actually I do have one question. Is it possible to upgrade the lifting capacity of the Besenzoni from 275kg without actually changing the whole passarelle? I have been thinking about buying a jetRIB but they're all 300kg+
Another question? Does a passarelle need regular servicing like changing the hyd oil or whatever?

Hello Mike. I saw your post a few months ago about buying a jet rib and uprating the passerelle. I am looking at a V50 and would want to do the same thing so my kids can waterski. What did you find out and did you manage to get a rib and has it worked out OK ?

Cheers

I did'nt do anything for 2 reasons. Firstly, the cost of buying a Jetrib + buying a new passarelle + beefing up the mounting for the passarelle was too much, something like £20k in total which I was unlikely to get back when I sold my boat. Second, some forumites with experience of jetribs were'nt exactly full of praise for them. Tricky to handle and unreliable, some said
The concensus seems to be to get a conventional outboard powered RIB. I guess you need 30hp+ on, say, a 3.2-3.5m RIB for watersports
