Hello All,
Cruising in Mallorca in a couple of weeks, based out of Port Adriano for the first time, does anyone have any feedback on Adriano
as a marina and the immediate surrounding,s . Also thinking of perhaps stopping over in Palma for a night, can anyone recommend
one of the marina,s in Palma for a visitors berth, costs / marinero,s etc.

Thanks very much.

I keep my boat in Adriano, Ive kept it there for the past 8 years, so we know it pretty well.

Feel free to ask any specific questions.

Its a decent marina, its a bit of a marina of two halves, there the new Philipe Starck bit , which is the large middle pier and the superyacht area , and then the 'old' marina . The new bit has a few fairly pricey restaurants and bars, the old bit has a few cheaper ,but IMO friendlier/more relaxed , restaurants and bars.

There's a new (opened last year) chandlers, but I havent been in to see how well stocked it is, and a couple of small supermarkets.

Outside the marina, just up the exit ramp, is the town of El toro, with a few more bars and restaurants, and a bigger and cheaper supermarket. Its not the prettiest place, and in terms of eating/drinking you're better off staying in the marina itself.

The marina staff are always pretty helpful, and friendly.

IN terms of immediate vicinity, if you turn left out of the marina and follow the coast, the first nice little bay (about 6 or so miles round the coast) is Portals Vells. It can be pretty busy in high season and at weekends, but its a nice place to visit. Then you have magaluf, palma nova, puerto portals marina, bendinat, then Palma.

Turning right out of adriano, you come to the malgrats islands, which has a nice sheltered anchorage. then santa ponsa bay, paguera, cala fornells, camp de mar, cala llamp, then andratx. Camp de mar has a nice restaurant on a little island.

Further afield, cabrera is worth a visit, but you need to get a permit first (the marina staff will sort that out for you), its probably about 2-3 hours away depending on how fast you cruise at.

I'm afraid I cant help you with your questions about palma marinas.

If you stop in Palma, avoid the marina which is near the ferry terminal ( which is on the west quay) - the closer you are to the cathedral, the quieter it is (close to the chandlers and security guy who is always there) and also just a walking distance to very nice restaurants.

I have been to Adriano a few time in last 3 years staff very good and helpfull but limited eating and no drinking other than the crew bar in the center.
It is a good place to base yoursel but we found it a bit boring and lacking atmosphere.
We based ourselves at Cala D'Or which was much nicer in our opioion but I think my favourite place was Alcudi and it had good facilities although lacks the nicer anchorages of the south west corner.
As far as Palma is concerned we stayed at Port De Mallorca and found them very good and helpful to be honest. They are in the middle of the port as you come in.
We are out at the end of June so let us know how you get on.

Not based in Adriano, but do visit regularly, now expanded there are usually some interesting large private motor yachts berthed there & certainly an interesting walk round! Comments above are pretty accurate re eateries etc, although have found marina staff can be a bit formal (love paperwork etc).

Others have mentioned westward cruising, Santa Ponca etc, great anchorage across the bay at Cala Fornells, Camp de Mar, Andraitx worth an overnight & Sant Elmo (isla dragonera) excellent restaurant Cornills worth a visit, then poodle up the west coast to Soller (spectacular scenery) stop off at Sa Foradada (rustic restaurant only accessible by boat on the cliff side, paella!)

Eastwards, Portals Vells already mentioned, for me continue to Sa Rapita & Cabrera, best beach & 'caribbean' sea in the Med, (don't forget the Cabrera overnight licence) enjoy!

I Have been following this thread with interest. Can you give me any idea on how easy ( or difficult it is) to get a berth anywhere on the island and what Port Adriano might cost as a comparision to uk.
Appreciat comments,

Appreciat comments,

At this time of year, it shouldnt be too hard to get a berth in most marinas, in July/august it might be a different story.

You can download port adriano's berthing rates below, these are monthly rates, but you should be able to use them to get a feel for the nightly charges:-

http://cdn.portadriano.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/tarifas-amarres-2014.pdf

A 10m mooring in april/may is 700 euro +IVA per month , and in June/july/August/sept its 900 euro +iva per month.

No we found quite the opposite. We were berthed in the marina you refer to at the west end of the bay, Club de Mar, for 5yrs and never had any major issues with swell disturbing us or security. In fact Club de Mar is one of the nicest marinas on the island and certainly the best in Palma. As you go further east, there is Marina Port de Mallorca which really does suffer swell problems, Real Club de Nautico which is a bit run down and then another marina opposite the cathedral whose name escapes me but which has very dirty water and where you get chucked out every year for the Palma boat show. So IMHO, Club de Mar is the place to go. Yes its a bit of a hike to Palma Old Town but take a taxi

Appreciat comments,

Really depends on the time of year, July/Aug can be difficult if not pre-booked, certainly best to phone the day before, personally I hate to have to book in advance & prefer to take my chances at the time (if I really want a marina berth usually try to get in before 16.00) Sometimes they will say they are full, but will phone you back, it rarely happens! Unfortunately it's a bit like the 'towels on the sun beds' lots of boats pre-book then just don't turn up, so it can pay to phone/vhf after 18.00.

Prices high season for a 15m you will pay anything from 80-120e, out of season 50-90e.

Possibly - as my experience of there is limited to two years of on/off on a friend's boat and his views. Also, when we were at Es Portitxol it was considerably cheaper than those in Palma.
