In late may I will be chartering a Gobbi SC425 out of Plama Mallorca.
I am trying to gather information on the area.
Rather than the formal almanac, would prefer to read other folks experiences. You often write some extremely useful tips. You always state the most fun you had, how and where you had it. You often state the bigest mistakes you made.

I did post this in scuttlebut first but was advised that this was not the best forum. Please accept my appologies if you have seen this before.

Not surprised you got flamed on Scuttlebut but I see you got pretty comprehensive reply from tcm, doyen of these parts. The only thing I would add is that there are some beautiful calas on the E Coast most of which you can drop the hook in although watch out for the no anchoring signs - they're trying to stop the algae spreading to other calas

Go east, along the south side of isalnd, as far as polensa if you have time. Zillions of calas etc to stop at.

Although, for a first trip out, you could go west as far as santa ponsa, but no further.

The north side of the island is too dull unless you and your companiions like very long sea passages.

I have a handbook listing all the marinas etc, and the rod heikel pilot book, and a chart or two, all of which you're welcome to borrow.

Would agree, go west as far round the island as you have time for. Just a quick footnote, the island of Cabrera 10 miles south east of Mallorca, is a nature reserve and has beautiful anchorages can only be considered if you have a special permit which you must apply for in person 48 hours in advance. I don't know if you were thinking of heading out there, just wanted you to avoid a wasted journey.

I'm based out of Alcudia but have sailed all round the island (which actually makes an excellent week, highly recommended). My fav places are:

Cala Mesquida (just a little clockwise from Cala Ratjada on the west side), fantestic beah and turquoise sea and cool beach bar

Cala Figuera (just round from Formentor), beautiful little cala, great water though can get quite a few boats in there in summer

Torrent de Paresis - on North coast near Soller, it's about the only good anchorage on the north and its where they filmed some scenes in clash of the titans

Pollensa is a good town to stop for a night

Cala Mondrago on the south coast is also really nice.

I've got photos of most of these places, pm me if you want some emailed over.
