Mallaig facilities closed outside office hours

The story I heard when I was there a month ago was that it was discovered that hikers/campers had slept the night in the entrance foyer and it was for this reason that they took the unhelpful step of having the facilities closed each night. Not the right reaction in my view, particularly as a certain member of staff seemed proud of the fact that the passcode had not been changed since the place was first opened.

Exactly what we heard - just left today - nice people and great facilities

Perhaps the responsible people are just using any excuse to keep them closed out of normal business hours and blaming 'them' to justify their actions, probably because they understand it is not popular. This is why wet flannels are handy hygiene aids.

I was told that the facilities were open overnight at the beginning of this season. According to the very nice marina guy on this weekend a yacht crew on their way back to the boat ended up spending the night in there. I believe the owner of the building lives upstairs, so I can understand why he was pissed off.

Hope if any of that crew read this they are suitably ashamed.

I do love Mallaig

A picture I've posted here before, but feel it shows the fast pace of life that is lived there

There was a great 2nd hand bookshop when I was last there. But you get the sense that having an absentee harbour landlord is not ideal.
