Is anybody here planning to go?
I'm crewing on a 60ft gaffer, I hope there's room to turn her round before we reach Fullbridge!
Should be a good day.

38ft of that will be bowsprit and bumpkin, just pull em in a bit.
Skipper refers to the bowsprit as the mooring probe.
It does seem to get recipients attention.
BTW ; bumpkin please Jim. Don't want to get into trouble for spelling or swearing.

I am in search of truth and accuracy, being part of the puritanical thought police.

Bum´kin

n. 1. (Naut.) A projecting beam or boom; as: (a) One projecting from each bow of a vessel, to haul the fore tack to, called a tack bumpkin. (b) One from each quarter, for the main-brace blocks, and called brace bumpkin. (c) A small outrigger over the stern of a boat, to extend the mizzen.

Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary, published 1913 by C. & G. Merriam Co.

I stand corrected and chastened.
I also googled it and found the urban dictionary definition. Crikey, I have led a sheltered life!

To anyone who didn't come, you missed a good day.
A bit more wind would have been good, but the parade of sail past the Prom was a spectacle. A feast of traditional gaff rigged boats, and a few pointy topped sails too.
The crew party afterwards was excellent.
"Free beer until it runs out", well, I did my best but it was still flowing when I had to leave.:)

We took our little sailing dinghy for a spin past Northey island to watch the parade of sail come in. It was a wonderful sight, particularly looking round the corner of Northey down river at the sails coming directly towards us (we then tacked smartly to make sure we were not run down!). We didn't take a camera, though there were plenty of others, including people on the water, taking photos.
