A jobs come up in Malaga and think of moving my boat down with me if I accept. Any suggestions on suitable long term (2years) moorings and likely costs. Any places to avoid. It's a Beneteau 323 not a super yacht so not looking for the marina with the swanky yacht club and Lacoste shop just friendly and convienient.

Costa del Sol marinas

If you want to avoid swanky (or ersatz swanky), then José Banus and Sotogrande should not be on the list . . I would avoid Benalmadena because it's just too busy/noisy.
Nothing at Malaga itself.
Caleta de Velez (east) is ok, but not sure about berths nor liveaboard potential.
East of that La Herradura is mucho expensivo.
Fuengirola is a little bit - well, downmarket - but we liked it.
Cabopino is cute, fairly smart but also fairly small and probably unsuited for long-term living aboard.
Bajadilla (Marbella) is great (not swanky) but getting a long-term berth is likely to be problematic and it's just 'gone commercial' from being a Junta de Andalucia marina so prices will have gone up.
Deportivo in Marbella might be worth looking at, but usually full.
Further west still (quite a lot) Estepona and Duquesa would also be worth investigating but it would be a fair daily hike to Malaga from there.

I might not be that quick to write off Benelmadena. Friends of ours have had a boat there for years and love it. Certainly wouldnt be in the goldfish bowl centre, but over on the sea wall you are away from it all.

20 mins to airport, easy access to Malaga, beaches nearby and about 7 million bars and restaurants....you would not be bored!

Bear in mind there is not a lot of cruising potential here, just day sailing really and the interesting bits are at my end (Nerja/La Herradura) end of the coast.

As pointed out Benalmadena is probably one of the more interesting places to keep a boat, further east both Caleta de Velez and Marina de Este are pretty dead.

Marina de Este has some good spots to day sail to in the vicinity and is quite picturesque.

I keep my boat on a trailer in a boatyard - cheapest way to keep a boat here, but they only go up to around 25-28ft.

Concerning Benalmadena, we concur with Grehan on this. Noisy, impersonal, goldfish bowl.
we spent 6 months there a few years ago, and then went on to Fuengirola.
Having lived aboard in Fuengirola for over ten years, we can say we still enjoy the friendliness and helpfulness of the marineros. Close to all the amenities, and lovely ·blutions !! Pricewise at the moment for a 10mtre berth it is winter: Nov - 30th April 9.10 euros/day+iva. summer 14.37/day +iva. If you are fortunate to get a annual booking it is still discounted by 15%. A total of around 4800 euros.
