Making a spring steel spring?

Something that I'm sure you'll have onboard is a selection of Jubilee clips. I would expect to be able to make an acceptable replacement spring out of one.

Good idea, I always had spare stainless ones on board, and they would have been springy enough to make a pawl without heat treatment.
