Making a saloon table - Wood experts please?

My old old table was teak veneer ply.
It had seen 40 years of good times and bad.
I replaced it with the same thickness ply with walnut planking laminex.
The modern plastic laminates have a wood grain feel and are maintenance free.
I am well pleased with the result.
