Making a gybe preventer

Hi Tiggertoo , glad you like the 2 big snapshackles and a block method. Keeping it simple works every time .
You are right about the forces involved too -if they don't get a chance to start , they can't build up to the crashing gybe senario. Havingthe preventer line from the stem to boom end is as good an angle as you can get!
And the control end of the preventer can be released quickly from the cockpit.
See my previous posts on this system.
Cheers , All.

Regardless of system, I like preventers to use nylon to take advantage of the stretch. My thinking is that the preventer doesn't actually stop the event, but it's there to slow things down from gear and skull busting to manageable near disaster from which recovery is relatively easy. There's an amazing amount of stretch in say 10 to 12mm nylon when the accidental gybe happens, and it goes from big bang/crash "holy sh......" into "oh bother ...."
