One of the bloggers has suggested using Swarfega to clean fenders. Anyway I found out that if you get a container and put a small amount of paraffin in it and then put in an equal amount of fairy liquid (or similar) and stir it,Hey Presto, it turn to a green jelly. You can also use Diesel, however perhaps the makers of Swarfega use a user friendly petroleum base as people "say" that putting paraffin or diesel on your hands will give you dermatitis however I used my mix for 20 years.

I use Manista, myself. Works a treat, smells nice and leaves hands in a far better state than Swarfega.
 
Washing-up liquid with clothes washing powder works really well to clean oily hands, the powder doesn't dissolve totally.
Smells of amonia, which probably helps clean, but probably doesnt make for '...hands that do dishes that feel as soft as your face' - unless you have a hoary old seamans face I suppose.
 
Washing-up liquid and sawdust. Mixes well, and turns into a jelly with the consistency of peanut butter. Stores well.

Definitely DON'T use Diesel, once you develop an allergy to it you have it for life.
 
The best one I have used was marketed as Fast Orange but since taken over by Locktite and sold as a hand cleaner in big orange containers.
I can't remember its proper name but you will see it in motorfactors. Not particularly cheap but very effective.

Far better than Swarfega. :)

I can second that!
 
Well I have been using soap that came from an MOD sale. It has pumice mixed in and, provided it is kept dry between hand washing, is fantastic stuff.

Mixing sugar with diesel makes napalm, or is that just an old wives tale.

Oh well Sarabande, that is another old wives tale myth busted.

Not sure what use I could put napalm to or where I can obtain polystyrene but now that I know how to do it I suppose that I / we could be prosecuted under some legislation dreamed up to catch those bent on being baddies.

I just use swarfega;)

Its a quid for a big red tub in wilkinsons, smells a damn site better than anything else on my boat, and compared to the thousands of pounds I haemorrage annually in the name of sailing, tis but a drop in the ocean!
 
I just scrubbed my hands with washing up liquid plus sugar after an oily and muddy bike maintenance episode. It works a treat - no water at first and exploit the abrasive power of the sugar.

I learned it from a police SOCO who said it was what he used after dealing with stinky dead bodies - I think he was taking the p*ss - rubber gloves more likely.
