I have been overhauling the steering system on my 30 year old ketch rigged
Dufour. the steering was very stiff and in certain places it would get
stuck. After taking apart the Binnacle it would appear that the chain is
rusty and corroded and needs replacing. The system is a standard chain and
cable installation.

Could anyone suggest where I can obtain a new chain from. I have tried lots
of different internet sites and Boatyards but am none the wiser. It seems
like a standard chain, something you might get from a motorbike garage, 90cm
long and each link is 3cm by 2cm.

Any info or advice would be appreciated.

You need a non-magnetic chain like stainless steel, when I overhauled the system on our old W33 I bought the chain from Ashley Bearings, in Ashley Road, Parkstone, Poole. If this is not local to you then probably any similar company that supplies bearings and transmission parts, drivebelts, pulleys etc is what to look for.
