I recently had the opportunity of sailing a weekend in a Benetau Oceanis 38.1. I was really impressed with the mainsheet arch; it looked good, sprayhood structure was gone as it was integrated within the arch; a bimini could also be attached to the back of the arch and the companionway felt great as you can hold into the arch for additional support. It also felt a lot tidier in the cockpit or I least I remember that impression.
I am not familiar with the German sheeting style and I was not sure how such a small anchor point would hold in case of sudden jibing.
The arch had also installed microphones and LED lighting.
I have to confess that I had thoughts of installing such an arch on my little 28ft. I don’t think I would change the main sheet as I got the traveller aft of my boat.
Have you got any experience regarding these arches?
