Thanks for all the useful hints.

Looks like a combination of silicon, pledge, mr sheen and wax may suit my needs.

I have some silicon spray onboard so i will have a try next time i'm onboard.

many thanx

Top slide replacement

Plenty of good advice to try here. Just a thought though - how old are the slides? They can get weak with the sun UV on them, so on your size of boat , replace the top one with a metal one. When the sail is reefed they come under tremendous strain.

I have 3 boats ....

1 with slugs ....... and slab reef ...... YUK !! Motor Sailer

1 with luff wire and slab reef ...... works a treat - Racer

1 with luff rope and no reef system ! .... works a treat - weekender.

2 out of 3 aint bad as Meatloaf said ........

Honest - I agree with you on some boats ..... but my boat - no matter what I do the bloody slugs are a pain.
Its so bad - that I seriously consider ditching the slab reef and slugs - revert back to roller boom and luff guide. So that puts paid to the main billowing all over the place etc. etc.

Sorry but if I'm around and on boat .... I would be willing to let another sort it or try .....

Re: Top slide replacement

some have recommended 2 slides at top due to the angle and possible binding from angle of rope, sheave, headboard since sail is nolonger direct pull up groove

it may be that the slugs are "pitching" as u hoist the sail & therefore jamb as they have sort of gone diagonal in the groove. some times caused by not enough slides on the luff.
i use silicone spray on all sheaves in organizers , main sheet sail slides & cars. dont have wd 40 on board as a general rule.
i have just discovered "spray grease" it has more body than wd40 & quite usefull in the engine bay
