A friend of mine rang me about a new main for his Jeanneau 34.2. The local agent for Hyde sails quoted €2300 plus 23% Vat for a fully battened cruising sail.Is this good value?

Ask Crusader for a quote, you'll get an answer back in a day or two.
I've asked them for heaps of quotes before, they don't seem to mind![]()
Just got a quote for a Genoa, worked out about £50 cheaper than a local loft, who actually manufacture in the UK.

Sounds reasonable value.
Distance buying is fine till you hit a problem. I am always willing to pay a fair premium for a local product, particularly with a thing like a sail.......well particularly with anything really.
The problem is their loft is in the Philippines.

But that'll be a sail cut in the uk and shipped to Portugal? Isn't there anyone in Portugal who will cut a decent sail? Not criticizing the choice, just wondering why your pal wouldn't source locally?

No, a sail designed in the UK, then made in the Phillipines and shipped to Portugal![]()
Possibly not. Leisure sailing is a much larger market in the UK, it's possible that in some places it's not big enough to support the full range of specialists.
Pete
He's getting a good discount and apparently this sail comes out cheaper than a local one.
