As Potato said, they want grease. Waterproof grease, else it won't stay put for long up there at the bow. For my Furlex that is calcium grease (clear brown, not the milky thickened type). Silicone grease would also work in a pinch, and if you don't want to carry a whole box of various lubricants, you could do worse than a tube of Super Lube (silicone grease with PTFE), which will work on winches, furlers, electrical contacts and rubber seals (but not near things that get hot, like on the engine). If you get it places you didn't want it, you can wipe it off with builder wipes.

Vic - that looks good, thanks. Do you reckon that PTFE spray will be OK for the genoa furler foil and the main slots ?

Is PTFE always PTFE, or should I be investing in a can of stuff designed for (non-staining) sailing stuff ?

Holt sell PTFE spray as sail track lubricant, but great also for sliding window tracks and double glazing mechanisms at home - I've had to 'steal' my can back from SWMBO !

Holt Pro- lube ? Also contains silicone , which some people dislike.

After buying some unsuitable ones I just gave in and bought some Jesus Jizz ....

If only that was the true name, so funny.

I use WD-40 Professional Dry PTFE for all such things. Smells nice too.
