Mail order - no thanks

Further to the recent posts on mail order, from now on its thanks but no thanks.
I made repeated requests for hydraulic steering quotes, some hundreds of pounds worth of business even at their ‘discounted’ prices.
They claim they tried to fax the reply but couldn’t, posted it but it did not arrive! More phone calls, waiting and music later, all at my expense I was promised that details would be passed to the London Boat Show staff, no prizes for guessing the response when I got to the stand.

An order was then ‘duplicated’ by their receipt of an ‘unexplained fax’. At no point did anyone have the ‘savvy’ to wonder why someone would place a second identical order – in this age of technology it should be obvious to even the dimmest.

All the first paragraph is dismissed by ‘staff shortages’ ‘sickness’ and other logistical problems, dare I say it – not my problem. The second problem is all my fault so I have been hit for delivery & return carriage plus VAT of course.

I have recently received an enormous glossy catalogue, this goes one better -
Prices are so competitive that they don’t even give them, it has a fancy non-name bit like another outfit that should be delivering things. You send in your requirements and get the ‘best’ prices back – three days later I am still waiting.

Thanks but no thanks I will stick with my local man his sticky price tags, helpful advise and ‘loyalty adjustments’

That's real bad luck, for my experience is the opposite with only SCREWFIX letting me down which they did so often that I gave up on them. Their antifouling is the same price as in this mag!!

I've normally found screwfix very reliable.

However I had a bit of a mishap on Saturday. I went to pick up my latest order from Screwfix and discovered it had suffered in transit. The order contained (among other things) a tin of bilge paint and 100m of flex. Due to poor packing and violent handling these two impinged directly upon each other. Result - the flattest paint tin you've ever seen - and white bilge paint everywhere.

Still, a quick call and they agreed to replace the damaged items - I can't wait to see what this lot will be like :-)

If it was easy perhaps more of us would buy things, perhaps they will eventually catch on to this fact.
In the mean time we continue to suffer delays.
(1) Sorry we are out of stock at the moment, so why advertise it.
(2) We cannot get it from our usual supplier, we can get it from xxx but it will cost more, I don't think so.
(3) We know we quoted 5 days delivery but due to xxxxx it will be another 10 days is that a problem.
(4) No we cannot be specific about the day of delivery, thats ok I don't mind staying in all week just in case it turns up.
And so it goes on, when it goes smoothly we are full of praise but we are paying for it to be right first time.
Just thought I would get back to the original thread, as it was turning into a thread on screws.
I have taken note of the fact that if you confirm an order, it to be fair should clearly state confirmation of order, otherwise you could get a duplicate delivery, ho hum.

I may be a little more blunt than other people but why do say "Mail order-no thanks" why not mention the company name? If they fail to live up to their promise they be named so others of us can use your experience when we buy. This will help them understand that good service means good profits.

Re: Mail order - Name

They did just happen to mention any reference to them would result in legal action (BMIF !) - I don't need it. Lets face it mail order & solicitors have a lot in common- Better, thanks but no thanks to them all

Re: Mail order - Name

legal action ? on what basis ? if what you state is true then you can tell it to whomever you chose.

Slander / libel is only if it's untrue.

You don't even have to mention them by name, a good despcription would do ! (I'd be keen to know) - these companies can't expect everyone to shout about it when they've had good service but not the other way round...

Re: Mail order - Name

Right!
It seems to me it's great timre to open a Hall of Shame!
BTW. I had good results mentionning to such people I would loudly advertise their bad behavior on as many forums as I could!
Believe me, it worked!

Good luck

Re: Mail order - Name

If you simply relate facts, what can they do - sue you for telling the truth? Even their lawyer is going to tell them not to waste their money.
