MAGNUM chopper shots near Salcombe

Main reason is cost and wear and tear. It's actually cheaper to put her on a ship and although the med leg would be fun she's not really built for crossing Biscay.

However, she'll have plenty of use in the Med. 1st major trip is Corsica/Sardinia but not sure if we'll have chance this year.

Fair enough that answers the question most succintly.
Without wishing to sound thick as a brick, why is she not bult for biscay ? Is it to do with the hull or what ?
And without wishing to pry into your particular boat but generaly speaking how much fuel / cost would a similar boat use to do south coast to Antibes ?
Ian

We've got C32 CAT's that drink fuel at the rate of up to 654 l/hr but even at moderate speeds of say 30 knots we are still talking around 440 l/hr from memory. Tanks are only 4000 litres so range is around 220 miles leaving 20% in reserve. We wouldn't be able to make it straight across Biscay in one hit.

The hull's fine but it is a planing hull so it'll slam a bit in the rough stuff. It's a pretty deep vee with more deadrise than similar designs so that's not really an issue.

I just don't fancy berthing her in fishing ports whilst spending more money that shipping her. If she was more economical, less shiney and had bigger tanks it would be work considering.

Ah I understand now, spose 200+ fuel range is way enough for med trips like yer sardinia plan etc but different ball game doing the biscay route particularily re-fueling so often and cacky ports etc. Thanks for the explanation. Have a great season. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Gasp, 220 miles... That's even less than I would have thought.
Also in the med, whenever frinstance you'd like to go to Greece, you couldn't make it straight from Sicily!
Though you should be able to almost double that range at 10kts or so, I guess...
...if you can keep your hands away from throttles, that is! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Magnum, fantastic!

Really cheered me up, a refreshing break from all the doom and gloom at the moment, good luck with her.

lovely, lovely boat and pictures, but where's Mrs Magnum ??? is she having a lie down after dragging in all the fenders, or are all the fenders in & she can't get out ???

Magnum,

The other day you posted an unnecessarily rude response to an innocent post I had made about speeding within Salcombe harbour. In the course of this you suggested, without having any knowledge to base this on, that my boat lacked facilities. Just to let you know that among it's facilities are a far greater range than yours!

P.S. Pics look great!

Mrs Magnum can be clearly seen sitting in one of the co-pilots seats in this pic, but I'm wondering why is she keeping her distance from Mr Magnum, there's an empty seat between then!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can do it again in the SOF, I seem to remember Nautical mentioning a photographer that goes around taking pics of boats from a helicopter.

Infact those pics you just posted look as if they were taken in the SOF!!
They really are fantastic, as is the boat, even the sea looks fantastic in the pics.
The first pic there, is stunning.

Cheers

Al.
