I have been asked to set up/initialise a handheld GPS that someone was having problems with. It successfully reports finding up to 8 satellites but it appears not to be retaining the programmed time (the clock displays a different time each occasion it is displayed which bears no relation to the time entered at initialisation or the real time). I suspect this is preventing it from moving to "tracking" - the Magellan status which shows data is being transferred. Clearly this was why the owner had been unable to set it up. It was functioning last season. I wonder if any one recognises the symptoms and can offer advice? It is 2 years old, purchased in St Peter Port, and the manual says it is Y2K compliant. It also accepts all other Set-Up choices and retains them. Many thanks.

The time is received from the satellite and as it's atomic time, it cannot be wrong. Must be something wrong with the unit. Mine has had problems tracking in the past when the batteries are low, even when connected to the boat's 12v system, i.e. external power source - suggest you might like to try fresh batteries before sending it back to Magellan. I'm afraid I can't offer any technical help, just user experience.

Thanks, Chris. On the satellite screen it is saying it is locking in - up to 8 simultaneously. The Ez-start procedure requires a time to facilitate "tracking" - it is this set time that keeps changing. I was told the batteries were fresh but will try with another set - certainly no suggestion of low battery signal.
