Maersk Madrid first trip into Felixstowe

see post 11 form a well informed chap

I saw that just after I posted :( I was just recalling my own time on container ships and drydocks in Hamburg and Bremen, (a long time ago :( ), and it seemed a sensible reason.

Which ship is it though? If it's 25th May, the ship in the pic isn't Madrid Maersk, which wasnt in Felixstowe until 6th June, (As far as I can tell).

If we can find the name of the ship, we can find out where she went....

She is The Maersk Lanco

Started a very different numbered voyage when she left Bremerhaven 29th May. Previously voyage 1706, then a couple of days on voyage 1707, then voyage 173A.

I wonder if she was chartered to a different company from Bremerhaven, so needed to be empty for the start of the charter - just musing :)

I dont disagree that she could just have been cutting and running with no empty containers :)

I think you are right and she is currently on a Safmarine rotation - Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Algeciras, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Algeciras, Rotterdam, London Gateway...

As an aside, there's a growing body of thought that the new berth with all the ongoing dredging is the reason we have so much fresh silting currently in the Blackwater/Colne. So much silt is being carried up the Wallet, far more than usual.

Just another big container ship designed by an accountant rather than an architect!

That's very interesting. Could be right.
