Unfortunately the number of radio checks is on the increase again ...

However what do you think the Coastguard reaction to the following would be?

Solent CG, SolentCG, Solent CG
Yacht ImacompletePrat, ImacompletePrat, ImacompletePrat
Radio Check please

Roll on next year when, because of DSC, the coastguard no longer keeps a headset watch on Channel 16 and will ony answer no urgent calls if they have the time. I guess it will take a couple of months to settle down

The headset watch on channel 16 was abandoned in September. Does this have something to do with why Solent CG are responding to radio checks again?

I agree, Steve.

Whilst I understand that SCG have to set an example by keeping the dialogue as brief as possible, its actually 'false economy' in this case.

If they responded to the Radio Check in their current way, then added on a statement like 'Please don't call us again', I'm sure it would deter others who overhear the conversation, rather than encourage them.

Another way would be to keep a record of everybody who calls, and issue a 'bollocking' after more than 3 in a season, or whatever. I know this is another administrative task, but it would act as a deterrent from the beginning and drive down the volume of calls. Thus the extra admin would be short lived.

A few years ago, I saw a boat called "Hello" and another called "dont tell the wife" at the Moody 2nd hand show.

Can you imagine

scg, scg, scg, hello, hello, hello

will the station calling hello please identify themselves

scg, this is hello, etc

hello hello, this is scg

etc
