Went for a sail in macwester 22,great boat...pity about the inside.Where these boats home completed. This one has lost some b allast on the way(lead ingots I am told) and its sort of unfinished...or was finished and is reverting to kit form.Have tried Mac assoc but no reply ay ideas welcome...thanks!!

Some were certainly home completed. I knew someone who fitted one out in the late '70s. "Lynch Pin" (but not sure of the spelling) which he subsequently moored in Weymouth.

Did you try the forum or phone up. Usually v helpful. What is it you wanted to know?

I tried emailing their contact but no reply. The boat has an interal moulding but I have seen pictures of the same type without an intenal moulding and would like to NOT have the internal moulding and then there is the missing ballast Could the boat have had lead trimming ballast with the main part of the ballast in iron?

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

Try Jeff Bradshaw, details on the site. Worth persisting as someone usually has the answer. I have a 26 with internal moulding which I was thinking of removing as they are not structural. They are solidly built boats, I expect the 22 must be the same. re the ballast I suppose the question is are you able to source lead to replace it. As you say it could be trimming ballast in which case you want to be to add it when you are on the water and loaded.

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

OK,thanks for thatI agree the iternal moulding seems to be floating about, the main bulkhead under themast is as far as I can see the really only structural bit, which could be structurally reinforced by say a part bulkhead formig a galley etc buttig on to the mast bulkhead...if you se what I mean!!I haent even bought the boat yet just possibilities, cheers.

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

The 22 F-i-L had was fitted with internal mouldings for the galley and tall cupboard (starboard side). The (struggle in) heads were just forward of that. On the port side was a C shaped bench with a removable box next to the companionway - giving access to the stern area under the cockpit.

I don't think any of it was structural - but then it was a solid little boat and could easily take a far greater pounding than we could!!

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

Ah yes - I wouldn't remove that bulkhead unless you do something else to hold the mast foot up!

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

I like your "STRUGGLE IN" W.C .I reckon the w.c can be put forard of the mast bulkhead;this frees up the saloon for two people to lye down and hae a kip or sit roud a table.Reduces the numer of berths but three i a 22 footer is eough!!

Re: macwester 22Rowen part 2

agree, I was refering to the moulded seats/lockers etc. You would need to replace the bulkhead with post properly braced across. Talk to the owners ass before you buy as they can tell you what to look for.

Good luck I hear they sail well, more than you can say for my 26.
