Can anybody who has an M10 transponder and has it connected to a PC via the USB tell me what plotter software they are using please. I cannot get my old Imray software to recognise the USB connection. The unit works well and can be connected via the NMEA 0183 no problem.

Thanks.

Download OpenCPN for free. It has excellent USB port detection and will soon tell you whether you have a hardware problem.

I have just purchased an M10 and there were issues with USB on Windows 8 - the unit must be upgraded even for their own bundled AIS viewer to work (latest F/W is 1.2.7.3 ). Then you can look at the Device Driver section via the Windows Control Panel to check which virtual COM port has been set up and at what speed. You will probably need to install the latest USB drivers from McMurdo as well.

I 'think' you will find that instructions are very similar to the Camino AIS product which I think McMurdo licenced.

Failing access via the USB, maybe you will need to connect your AIS using NMEA via a USB/RS232 adapter?

Sorry to not offer much additional help as I have not yet installed the unit on my boat - just set the configuration and new firmware on a Win 8.1 tablet (and the McMurdo AIS viewer app does seem to be working and accessing the unit).

Just in case, as mentioned, check the virtual COM port settings and make sure that the PcPLotter software is configured to that as well.

I did use a small utility several years ago where I changed the port until I could see the NMEA data strings! I think the software was NMEA Mon from http://homepage2.nifty.com/k8/gps/

Thanks for the update. I will see what can be done tomorrow with the unit on the boat. If I need to download extra drivers it will all have to come home for the week.
