I have to replace the macerator pump which is used to empty the holding tank. Currently there is an ITT Jabsco pump fitted, model number 18590-0090. Effluent has leaked past a seal into the electric motor part of the body, severely corroding it.

I have looked on the internet but can only find models 18590-1000 and 18590-2092. Are these direct replacements or are they different. Can anyone explain the difference in them please.

Some of the internet sites found were for American companes selling the pumps at around 130 dollars compared to £170 in this country. Does anyone have any advice on ordering marine items from the USA or a good value supplier in this country that I may have missed ?

Any advice / information would be appreciated.

They're all effectively the same pump. Jabsco do tend to change part numbers. 18590-2092 is the current part number. You might also consider asking JabscoShop how much a new motor would be, although I suspect it'll be better in the long run to fit a whole new pump.

If you order from US, expect to pay a fair bit for carriage, plus probably import duty (say 10%), plus probably VAT on the pump, carriage and import duty. Likely to still be a bit cheaper than UK prices.

Seeing your query on macerator pumps has just reminded me of something that happened to us earlier this year at a boatyard at Sens in France.
We were lying alongside another boat when it was approached buy a large motor cruiser - Linsen or similar - What are you doing here asked the skippe of the adjoining boat to the woman who was standing on the deck about to throw our mooring lines over. Oh - the normal, toilet troubles- I fink we have a problem with our electric masterbation pump. On hearing this evrything went very quiet. Until a ladies voice with a French accent replied 'Hhu Oh La La electrics - on our boat we always do it by hand....
The laughs must have been heard miles away..
The above is 100% absolutely true, I was there, I heard it as did other I can name.

I bought a bargain one of these at Beaulieu then asked what it was for. It is fitted on the outlet of the holding tank which means the effluent is mashed up before it goes over the side. Why?
Mashing on the outlet of the toilet before storing would seem to me to be better to give the bugs an easier meal. But the instructions clearly disagree.

Headmistress (Peggy; what happend to her?) agrees.

Discussion invited.
